Medium-voltage switchgear systems consist of panels and equipment used for switching, protecting and metering electrical circuits. The coordinated operation of protection relays and circuit breakers enables the faulty section to be isolated from the network and helps limit the impact of the fault on other sections.
Designs using air, gas or solid insulation are evaluated according to the voltage level, short-circuit conditions, available installation space and environmental requirements. RMUs and other switchgear configurations are selected according to the connection and operational requirements of the distribution network. For gas-insulated options, the type of gas used and the requirements of the target market are also taken into consideration.
The switchgear configuration is determined according to the circuit breaker, load-break switch, disconnector, earthing arrangement, metering and protection functions. Internal arc withstand capability and other safety features are assessed together with the relevant product’s test scope and specified installation conditions. Remote monitoring and control options are configured to be compatible with the control system used in the project.
